Born in Montreal, Normand has been interested in drawing from an early age. His mother, herself a painter, encouraged him in this way and introduced him to dry pastel and oil painting. He has attended workshops at the School of Fine Arts and later, at the end of high school, did a parallel study in commercial design. During his collegiate years, he produced some oil paintings that he sold in a small art shop in his neighborhood. However, the music he has been studying for a few years is becoming more and more important in his life, so he has completed a Bachelor of Music degree.
He began a career as a high school teacher. He taught music, visual arts and mathematics for 34 years. Yet he has never stopped drawing. In the mid-2000s, he seriously began to practice drawing and painting. He is constantly documenting and experimenting. He accumulates training and workshops in Quebec and the United States to deepen his knowledge
Today, he devotes a good deal of his time to painting and, having spent much of his life in teaching, a job he loved, he runs drawing and painting workshops for adult groups.
For him, the artist must be constantly evolving and to do this, research, exploration, experimentation, curiosity and daring are essential elements for creation.
Today, many of his paintings are in private and corporate collections.
